				<div class="elementor-widget-container">
									<p data-start="298" data-end="393">Last night, my phone rang.<br data-start="324" data-end="327" />Quarter to nine. Then again at five to nine. Same random number.</p><p data-start="395" data-end="484">And I just sat there thinking — who calls a small business owner at this time of night?</p><p data-start="486" data-end="740">It wasn’t an emergency, I’m sure. Probably someone who’d seen BRANDeez online and wanted a quote or had a quick question. But it got me thinking again about boundaries — how easily work sneaks its way into home time, especially when you work from home.</p><h3 data-start="742" data-end="777">Remembering the burnout years</h3><p data-start="779" data-end="1001">There was a time, early in my design journey, when I worked ridiculous hours. We’re talking 18-hour days, months at a stretch — wake up, coffee, PC, quick lunch, PC again, sleep, repeat. No downtime. No space to breathe.</p><p data-start="1003" data-end="1278">I thought that was what success looked like — that if I just pushed hard enough, I’d “make it.” But what actually happened is I started resenting the very thing I loved doing. That was the beginning of my obsession with balance, and with protecting my time outside of work.</p><h3 data-start="1280" data-end="1330">Availability isn’t the same as accessibility</h3><p data-start="1332" data-end="1583">Running a small business, especially one that’s starting to grow, can make you feel like you have to be available all the time. Calls, emails, WhatsApps — it never ends. But there’s a difference between being <em data-start="1541" data-end="1552">available</em> and being <em data-start="1563" data-end="1580">accessible 24/7</em>.</p><p data-start="1585" data-end="1711">It’s okay to have working hours. In fact, it’s essential. You get to decide when you’re reachable, not the other way around.</p><p data-start="1713" data-end="2036">That said, flexibility is part of real life. There are times when you’ve got a big project, a looming deadline, or you’re just on a roll creatively. My wife knows those moments well — she’ll say, “Don’t worry about dinner, just finish what you’re busy with.” And I’ll push through. But that’s the exception, not the rule.</p><p data-start="2038" data-end="2090">The danger is when the exception becomes the norm.</p><h3 data-start="2092" data-end="2136">Protecting your time (and your sanity)</h3><p data-start="2138" data-end="2188">A few simple things that make a huge difference:</p><ul data-start="2189" data-end="2881"><li data-start="2189" data-end="2302"><p data-start="2191" data-end="2302"><strong data-start="2191" data-end="2241">Set business hours — and actually honour them.</strong> Let clients know when you’re available, and be consistent.</p></li><li data-start="2303" data-end="2393"><p data-start="2305" data-end="2393"><strong data-start="2305" data-end="2347">Let calls go to voicemail after hours.</strong> If it’s important, they’ll leave a message.</p></li><li data-start="2394" data-end="2487"><p data-start="2396" data-end="2487"><strong data-start="2396" data-end="2426">If it’s a client you know,</strong> call them back the next morning to check what they needed.</p></li><li data-start="2488" data-end="2667"><p data-start="2490" data-end="2667"><strong data-start="2490" data-end="2562">If it’s a number you don’t recognise and they don’t leave a message,</strong> it’s probably not worth calling back. Between spam and scams these days, it’s just not worth the risk.</p></li><li data-start="2668" data-end="2790"><p data-start="2670" data-end="2790"><strong data-start="2670" data-end="2735">Keep work and home life separate, even if you work from home.</strong> Shut your laptop, walk away, and mentally clock off.</p></li><li data-start="2791" data-end="2881"><p data-start="2793" data-end="2881"><strong data-start="2793" data-end="2827">Communicate deadlines clearly.</strong> It avoids the “urgent at 8 PM” situations entirely.</p></li></ul><h3 data-start="2883" data-end="2904">The bottom line</h3><p data-start="2906" data-end="3095">Your business matters — but so do you.<br data-start="2944" data-end="2947" />You don’t need to answer every call or message to be professional. You just need to be clear, consistent, and reliable <em data-start="3066" data-end="3074">within</em> your chosen hours.</p><p data-start="3097" data-end="3178">Because at the end of the day, your peace of mind is part of your business too.</p> </div>

Think out loud. Bounce ideas around. Ask it to help me untangle the clutter in my brain.</p><p data-start="968" data-end="1131">It’s less like using a machine… And more like working with a very fast, very calm co-worker who never gets tired — or rolls their eyes at my half-baked thoughts.</p><h3 data-start="1133" data-end="1164">So what’s the real benefit?</h3><p data-start="1166" data-end="1188"><strong data-start="1166" data-end="1188">It helps me think.<br /></strong>Not just write or generate — but think clearly.<br data-start="1237" data-end="1240" />And for someone running a small brand and juggling a million things, that’s gold.</p><hr data-start="1323" data-end="1326" /><h3 data-start="1328" data-end="1359">How I <em data-start="1337" data-end="1347">Actually</em> Use ChatGPT</h3><h3 data-start="1361" data-end="1393">1. To unpack fuzzy ideas</h3><p data-start="1395" data-end="1429">I often start with something like:</p><blockquote data-start="1431" data-end="1547"><p data-start="1433" data-end="1547">“Let me think out loud for a sec…”<br data-start="1467" data-end="1470" />And then I just type. No polish, no structure — just the jumble in my head.</p></blockquote><p data-start="1549" data-end="1654">ChatGPT takes that and reflects it back, often saying:<br data-start="1603" data-end="1606" />“Cool. Here’s what you’re really trying to say.”</p><p data-start="1656" data-end="1703">It’s a mirror that helps me hear myself better.</p><h3 data-start="1705" data-end="1740">2. To write in my own voice</h3><p data-start="1742" data-end="1792">I don’t want overhyped, formulaic marketing fluff. I want plain, clear, human language — like I’m talking to someone across the table.</p><p data-start="1879" data-end="2020">ChatGPT helps me with that. I’ve trained it on my tone, my preferences, and how I like to show up.<br data-start="1977" data-end="1980" />Now, it helps me write like… well, <em data-start="2015" data-end="2019">me</em>.<br />(You’re reading a good example of that right now.)</p><p data-start="1684" data-end="2101"><strong data-start="1684" data-end="1742">And here’s a little trick that makes a big difference:</strong><br data-start="1742" data-end="1745" />One of the reasons my writing sounds so much like <em data-start="1795" data-end="1799">me</em> is because… well, it is. I’m not typing most of this — I’m actually speaking it. I use the ChatGPT app on my Android phone, and when I start a chat, I tap the little microphone icon and just talk. That’s why the tone comes across as relaxed and natural — because <strong>I’m literally speaking, not writing.</strong></p><p data-start="2103" data-end="2534"><strong>A quick tip if you want to try this:</strong> keep each voice note under two minutes. Anything longer sometimes fails to transcribe. So I do a short burst, tap the tick to convert it to text, then hit the mic again and carry on. You can do this as many times as you like, and as long as you stay within ChatGPT’s message length limit, it works beautifully. It’s become a really easy, friction-free way to capture ideas without overthinking.</p><h3 data-start="2074" data-end="2114">3. To move through blocks faster</h3><p data-start="2116" data-end="2191">When I hit a wall — with a headline, a piece of copy, a sales page — I ask:</p><blockquote data-start="2193" data-end="2288"><p data-start="2195" data-end="2226">“Can you help me shape this?”</p><p data-start="2233" data-end="2288">Or: “What are three ways I could say this differently?”</p></blockquote><p data-start="2290" data-end="2412">It’s like whiteboarding with someone who doesn’t interrupt, doesn’t need coffee, and keeps up with your thoughts at speed.</p><h3 data-start="2414" data-end="2458">4. To think <em data-start="2432" data-end="2438">with</em> me — not <em data-start="2448" data-end="2453">for</em> me</h3><p data-start="2460" data-end="2481"><strong>This one’s important.<br /></strong>I don’t ask it for <em data-start="2502" data-end="2507">the</em> answer. I ask it to explore options, weigh trade-offs, play devil’s advocate, or help me structure what I’m trying to say. It’s collaborative. It sharpens my thinking, not replaces it.</p><p data-start="2695" data-end="2758">And because of that, I stay in control of the creative process.</p><h3 data-start="2765" data-end="2810">5. To get unstuck on tech stuff — fast</h3><p data-start="2812" data-end="2884">Even though it’s not “creative,” technical friction <em data-start="2864" data-end="2869">can</em> kill momentum.</p><p data-start="2886" data-end="2985">Whether it’s domain records, email setup, Notion glitches or WordPress weirdness, ChatGPT helps me:</p><ul data-start="2987" data-end="3140"><li data-start="2987" data-end="3032"><p data-start="2989" data-end="3032">Troubleshoot logically (without spiralling)</p></li><li data-start="3033" data-end="3075"><p data-start="3035" data-end="3075">Translate tech jargon into plain English</p></li><li data-start="3076" data-end="3140"><p data-start="3078" data-end="3140">Save hours I’d otherwise spend Googling or waiting for support</p></li></ul><p data-start="3142" data-end="3246">And again — it only works because I’m willing to think out loud, even about boring or frustrating stuff.</p><p data-start="3248" data-end="3343">Because of that, ChatGPT can guide me through the fix much faster — and I can get back to work.</p><hr data-start="3345" data-end="3348" /><h3 data-start="3350" data-end="3394">The Hidden Superpower: A Thinking Partner</h3><p data-start="3396" data-end="3521">For a small business owner doing most of it solo, there’s something surprisingly powerful about not being alone in your head.</p><p data-start="3523" data-end="3689">This isn’t about automating everything. It’s about having a safe, pressure-free space to process out loud — and get feedback that’s fast, helpful, and non-judgmental.</p><p data-start="3691" data-end="3722">Yes, ChatGPT generates content.</p><p data-start="3724" data-end="3977">In fact, it helps me write <em data-start="3751" data-end="3757">most</em> of mine.<br data-start="3766" data-end="3769" />But the <em data-start="3777" data-end="3786">quality</em> of what it gives back depends entirely on the relationship I’ve built with it — how much context I give, how openly I work with it, and how I’ve trained it to understand my voice and values.</p><p data-start="3979" data-end="4012">That’s what makes the difference.</p><hr data-start="4014" data-end="4017" /><h3 data-start="4019" data-end="4064">So, is this “the best way” to use ChatGPT?</h3><p data-start="4066" data-end="4075">Honestly?</p><p data-start="4077" data-end="4176">There’s no single best way. But this approach feels more human — and more <em data-start="4151" data-end="4156">you</em>, if you’re like me:</p><ul data-start="4178" data-end="4361"><li data-start="4178" data-end="4210"><p data-start="4180" data-end="4210">You value clarity over hype.</p></li><li data-start="4211" data-end="4269"><p data-start="4213" data-end="4269">You want help thinking, not just spitting out content.</p></li><li data-start="4270" data-end="4361"><p data-start="4272" data-end="4361">You’re not trying to “game the system” — you just want to run an honest, effective brand.</p></li></ul><p data-start="4363" data-end="4459">If that sounds familiar, maybe try using ChatGPT as a <em data-start="4417" data-end="4435">thinking partner</em>, not a vending machine.</p><p data-start="4461" data-end="4538">You might be surprised how much more helpful — and human — it starts to feel.</p> </div>
